Shadow:BloodLine

A journey of transformation from short story to full-length novel.

First, I want to introduce the puppy in the picture: her name is Ruby. She was not just my support animal but an integral part of my family. I lost her last year, a day after Christmas, due to cancer. Ruby was 12 years old, and I believe we had a wonderful life together. However, no matter how much time we have with our pets, it never feels like enough. I want to dedicate this book to her because she was as much a part of it as I was. Ruby would sit by my side for hours while I typed away. Thank you, Ruby, for everything.
The book began to take shape during my high school years. My teacher, Mr. Coats, assigned us to write a short story, and at the time, I had no idea what to write about. I ultimately decided to focus on one of my characters from Dungeons & Dragons. Mr. Coats enjoyed my story so much that he encouraged me to develop it into a full-length narrative. However, I never followed through because I had other priorities.
It wasn't until I joined the Army in 2003 that I considered writing again, but my training and weekends spent out with friends left little time for it. Over the years, I lost several copies of the book, which made it even harder to revisit.
Now, I work at a mental health clinic and am nearing the completion of my master's degree to become a counselor. Recently, I found the file for my old book on one of my external hard drives. I smiled at the memories and almost deleted it, but I realized it was a story that needed to be shared. So, I've decided to finish the book. It has been 30 years in the making, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed writing it. In fact, I have rough drafts for three more books to follow this one.

Everyone has been eagerly awaiting updates about the book, so I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to my editor, Evelyn, for her incredible support in this process. If anyone else is writing and needs assistance, please let me know, and I'll be happy to connect you with her.
I am nearly finished with the book itself. Once I complete my final edits, the manuscript will go into Evelyn's capable hands, where she can work her magic and correct any mistakes I may have overlooked. I tend to overuse two keywords in the book: "these" and "those." Once it is sent off for printing, I'll update everyone.
Now, let me recap where I left off. The companions have reached the city of Ravenwatch. Established initially as a coastal base, it has transformed over time into a major city and port on the mainland of Eldridge. After enduring a long battle against foes wielding pointy weapons, the companions are all injured, and there was even a death—wait, did I say "death"? I keep forgetting details. As I said, they arrived in Ravenwatch and found themselves in a city filled with remarkable things. While they recover, they explore what the city offers such skilled individuals. In this chapter, we will focus on two of the companions as they arrive at a crossroads and try to decide their next course of action. All I can reveal is that fewer companions will leave the city.
